We cultivate our organic red Reishi (Ganoderma lucidum) mushrooms on wood-rich substrate, Duanwood (original wood logs), where Reishi grows naturally, resulting in a potent and high-quality reishi extract with the most bio-active constituents available.
There are 2 types of bioactive compounds in Reishi: beta-D-glucans (type of polysaccharides) and triterpenes (triterpenoids). The glucans also may vary, depending on their structure. Mushrooms grown predominantly on grain substrate are rich in alpha-glucans, but mushrooms grown predominantly on a wood substrate are rich in beta-glucans.
The triterpenes in Ganoderma lucidum come from the use of wood as a substrate. Hence if Reishi has been cultivated on grain, it will have little or no triterpenes.
Our Organic Reishi Extract Powder is derived by extraction of the mushrooms fruiting bodies, which are proven to be much richer in active ingredients and more abundant in beta-D-glucans rich polysaccharides, than mushrooms extracted from mycelium.
