Is the packaging tape recyclable?

We use Reinforced Gummed Paper Water Activated Tape, we have found this is much more robust in transit and is far more recyclable than the polypropylene tapes. Whilst no solution is perfect, we have made a choice to use the Paper based tape as a best compromise. The rolls we use have minimal reinforcement fibres.Reinforced Gummed Paper Water Activated Tape is not fully recyclable in the traditional sense. While the base material—typically kraft paper—is recyclable and biodegradable, the reinforcement, often made of fibreglass or synthetic fibres, complicates the process. These reinforcing materials are not easily separated from the paper during standard recycling and are not biodegradable, meaning they can end up as waste in recycling facilities. Most recycling systems aren’t equipped to break down or repurpose the fibreglass component, so it’s often removed as residue and sent to landfills or incinerated.That said, the paper portion can still be recycled with cardboard as the reinforcement is minimal and local facilities accept it, but the tape as a whole isn’t considered 100% recyclable due to these added materials. Non-reinforced gummed paper tape, by contrast, is fully recyclable and a more eco-friendly option. If sustainability is a priority, you might want to check with your local recycling program—some may handle reinforced tape better than others—but generally, the reinforcement makes it less recyclable than its unreinforced counterpart.
